Welcome to the PJG Studio Art Blog. You will need come here to complete some assignments. Please bookmark this page.
Before you start creating entries it's a good idea to see some work done by Visual Journal artists. You should look at both artists first. Next, decide which one you would like to write about.
Write at least a pargraph response about one of the artist's work. You may talk about their work as a whole or a specific page. Remember to use "artspeak". Talk about color, shape, texture, line, and how the artist used these elements of art to make something interesting. This assignment is due Monday, Sept. 19th

ReplyDeleteTeesha Moore's entry (fourth down second column) was especially evocative for me. She used a series of "c's" to create a ribbon effect that can be easily scaled. I did this as a project in 6th grade (not to the extent that she did). While my project was utterly abstract she wove her "ribbons" into a piece of extremely surreal artwork that is very unique. She had the ribbons "pull apart a curtain" to reveal some very detailed and stylized clouds that gave the rest of the piece a glowing figure.
ReplyDeleteTeesha Moore's twelfth entry especially stood out to me. I took yoga over the summer, so I know how important it is to have balance and to be completely calm. The concept that "yoga doesn't take time, it gives time" was interesting, because of its truth. Yoga doesn't just take up time, it gives you time to relax and reflect on your life. The shapes and textures used in the middle of the picture (the SHOUT part) made me think of a rock stack, which only stays and works with complete balance. Coloration was also a big factor in this picture because of the vibe it sent. Those warm, relaxing colors make me think of a nice, beautiful sunset. This feeling is emphasized with the "rays" seeming to come from the face at the top of the stack, which look like a sun. All in all, the techniques used in this art piece work together to convey the message in an intriguing way.

ReplyDeleteI don’t feel either sad or happy when looking at Teesha Moore's artwork, instead I feel either energized or curious. The bright colors energize anyone who looks at them and they way she makes the characters on her pages look would make anyone curious as to what was her inspiration and how did she come up with these. The colors are vibrant and each page is full of life. Her artwork has similarities but are all still unique. Teesha Moore's artwork is something I will definitely refer to if I need inspiration.

Teesha Moore's entry #39 really spoke to me. The attention to detail in in entry is amazing. For example all of the people who are flying in the bird. The faces are so precise. I really also like the collage work done for the border. The way she layered the border to make each side a different pattern is beautiful. I also like the color pallet that she uses for this journal entry. The colors go together really nicely together. One of my favorite parts is the writing she uses towards the bottom. What she is saying is very interesting and intelligent and goes very well together with the rest of the entry. I also enjoyed how she used many different types of media to make everything pop and compliment off of each other very well. Overall, Teesha Moore did a phenomenal job on this journal entry.
ReplyDeleteTeesha Moore's art is very interesting to me. She uses a lot of vibrant colors that really makes each piece pop out of the page. I noticed that there is almost always an eyeball in her work that is usually cut from a magazine or newspaper. There is also quotes or strings of letters scattered around more often than not. She uses shapes and color to really define each thing in her images. It is a very wacky collection of art indeed. I think it looks pretty cool. [Matthew Graci]

ReplyDeleteWhen I look at Teesha Moore's sketchbook, it hits me straight in the face...like "holy fudgecakes!" Some of her work is very eerie and creepy and intense, and almost every piece has something that stares back at you. Her use of color as well as the subjects she picks for her art makes her work pop tremendously, like it's yelling and call out at me. She mixes these amazing elements that you wouldn't normally expect to see together, like a Batman mask and a Red Cross flag, or a mermaid figure with green and black striped arms. Her art demands that you pay attention to it, and honestly it's so enthralling to look at that I wouldn't want to NOT look at it... [Erin Zipman]
ReplyDeleteOne of Teesha Moore's entries (2nd column, 8 down) spoke out to me because it was a picture of nature, but not really natural in all aspects. I admire the different colors and values of the tree trunk, and the gradient of colors for the ground. The shading and color gradient on the bird makes it look like a dove. There isn’t a clear focal point, since there aren’t any bright colors, but I think the tree and the bird together make up the focal point. Teesha Moore used a lot of different patterns all over this entry, including in the leaves and also in the border. She added little details such as the little white dots lining the tree and spreading out along the page and the bigger orange balls which might represent fruit dotting the page make it a better entry. ~Cherrie Lan
ReplyDeleteTeesha Moore works with intense detail, exhilarating colors, countless words and unique themes or images in every single journal piece. Contrary to the microscopic details collaged in most, entry #15 stood out to me and made me examine it for multiple minuets. The young girls eyes, soft texture and warm colors and shape demanded my attention. The fact that there was only a few of her small pen marks (in the bottom left corner) and less bold contrasting colors, it balanced Teesha's other journal pages magically. I enjoyed the overwhelming hidden touches I discovered in all pieces yet this piece specifically had a unique aspect on the other side of the spectrum. This is an inspiring journal that shows one can spend days on the little touches or equally beautiful, bold statements:)

Dan Eldon's journal entry LAMU really stood out for me visually. The way he made one person abstract and sketchy to the other disfigured and faded shows the creepy and mysterious tone he wants to show. Another thing that caught my eye was how he made a black star and moon to contrast the red circle it's inside of making you be pulled into the piece. What also grabbed my attention was the way he wrote LAMU in bold red writing on top of a thick black line, making the word more distinct and pronounced. Overall this piece of work captured my attention. The artist's use of dark bold colors and eerie sketches of people really made you feel the uncanny and unnerving theme.

Teesha Moore's art work is totally amazing, spectacular, in my point of view I thinks her journal is really creative and colorful. In some of the pages have little word meanings or on other pages have most of the page cover with a meaningful message. Also, most of her pages have different people, shapes, and colors the contrast with one another. I think that the artist used these elements to make every page interesting by combined all of them and show something with a lot of imagination, creativity and effort.
ReplyDeleteTeesha Moore's work left me intrigued, curious, interested and wanting to see more. I love how she uses multiple colors, words and cut outs to create a beautiful piece. I especially like entry #13 because I think it is so cool how she can put together so many random objects but still make it look beautiful. I find it so interesting how she has so many ideas packed into each page, and being able to fill a whole book with them. Her art is a true inspiration and I hope it reflects on my work. -Julianna Mirabile
ReplyDeleteAll of Teesha Moore's journals displayed bright and dynamic coloring which really caught my eye. She used alluring focal points known as human figures and interesting eyes that got my attention and made me focus on the beauty of the picture. I also noticed how all of her creations incorporated lots of shading and smudging of colors which balanced out all of her different journals, keeping a constant amount of detail and interest. Another thing that got my attention was the fact that she used plenty of quotes and different phrases, which made me want to examine the picture more intensely and figure out the true meaning of the illustration. All of the words she used related to her entries and described the picture in a very important way. I enjoyed how she used a perfect mix of warm and cool colors and tints to produce overwhelming textures like faded backgrounds and more. Teesha Moore's pages were very inspiring and encouraged me to focus on the little details of things and that any piece of art can be beautiful, if you put your time and effort into it. - Ethan DePinto
ReplyDeleteDan Eldon's work easily captures that darker edge of human culture that most artists don't have the guts to face. His work straightforwardly faces the inner fear of human urges and the fact that we aren't this perfect race and we are constantly making mistakes. He reminds us of this in his integration of human silhouettes and images. His use of painted artwork and actual pieces of US and human culture as a whole, also managing to capture that rugged, monotony of NYC life, pops out along with darker color palettes and dark charcoal-like marks. His messy unchecked patterns and strokes once again add that errie edge to his work and force us to acknowledge the darkness in his work. His use of paint, photography and the integration of imperfections, really brings his work to life. - Anny W.
ReplyDeleteTeesha Moore incorporates inorganic, wavy shapes into her artwork. She also uses words in some to give her pieces more meaning. Many of her journal pages have one main color, with other colors to complete it. It seems that she uses cutouts and overlapping to give her artwork depth. A lot of the pages in her journal include people and animals, sometimes together, as the focal point. -Megan W.

Teesha Moore used beautiful vibrant colors to express her feelings in an astonishing way. Her 37th photo caught my eye because the entry brings together the stars and the circus in an "astonishing" way like she writes in the photo. I also love the entry which states "Balance in all things." It shows how much we truly have to balance out but the monotone face we put on in front of people. This book was quite beautiful to look at and I'm glad to have been shown it.

ReplyDeleteHer innovated skills are inspiring in a hole other Laval, her playful imagination resonates off the page. The vibrant colors she's chosen explodes into unique feelings. Each multitude of each aspect is so detailed and original. Each drawing tells a song or story that could go on for days. As a young artist, her exquisite and abstract art inspires me and opens my imagination and gives me ideas for more possibilities for expression on a piece of paper.

ReplyDeleteTesha moores art was extremely original. It was very unique in that it used very bizarre. Most, if not all of them, were based around a kind of human like creature. All of her art tells a story. Her use of text helps tell the story in each entry. I really appreciate her use of normal objects/people and turns it into something bizarre. Her use of color really helps set the tone for each piece.

Teesha Moore's pieces stood out to me because of her unique contrast of shapes and tones. All of her works possess a lot of feeling and motion. The juxtaposition of soft color transitions and very detailed designs make her works visually appealing. I was particularly entranced by her entry #19 because of the interesting use of lines to create texture. Also, I like how in many of her pieces she uses animal and human faces to create emotion and depth. All throughout her journal pieces she uses unique and extremely creative techniques.

I liked Dan Eldons the most because of very diverse pictures and drawings, and how he made all of his focus points stand out from his backgrounds as well as it being well put together. I especially liked the page with siperman because I like superheroes, and I thought the way he was coming out of the page was funny and cool. The rest of his pages were awesome as well, like the tiger. I thought his book was really cool and creative while being simple.

Dan eldon used mysterious colors and incorporates a dark and sinister style, his imaginative style of darkness and bring color into is absolutely brilliant. Teesha more uses orginary, dull, colors that creates a colorful picture. Shapes shapes and sizes she incorporates into her art is a beautiful form of abstract that confuses the person viewing the drawing but always makes them think harder of what the drawing or painting really means.
