More Journal Artists

Two more journal artists to look at this week. Look at both artists then write a response (minimum 1 paragraph) comparing the two artists.

Please talk about the similiarities and differences you see. Remember to discuss the Elements of Art: line, shape, color, value, and texture and where they're used. Also think about the design principle called Emphasis. How does each artist create a center of interest (Shout) or emphasis?

Tracy Moore (not Teesha Moore from last time!)

Here's my new blog response. With tracy, she uses intense materials like leather and metal. Her work is also darker with black and white and darker pictures. Karen's is the oppisite, she used bright colors and her work seems happier and brighter, there are a lot of entries with birds in them. she also used mixed media sucha as felt.

  3. I really liked how they each used many different mediums. In Karen's, I enjoyed seeing the felt cutouts that were included. I like how she collaged onto her drawings. In Teesha's, I really liked how she designed each backround in black ink and then created the rest using different elements, such as photographs.

  4. They both have really odd, but creative drawing styles. The disproportioned heads that they make in several entries are eyecatching and definitely shout elements. Tracys' journal has a darker feel to it because of all of the dark colors and somewhat disturbing drawings. However, Karens' journal uses brighter colors and positive drawings. They both were very creative in creating their covers. I like how they covered them in materials with odd textures.

  5. both artists were very interesting and used very different textures and techniques of drawing. tracy likes black her drawings were very involved and different, they are really eye catching. and fun to look at. her textures were hard id say, she used leather and dark colors. karen michel used more eastery colors and her texture was more soft. her drawings had meaning fun quotes on them, such as "for as long as i can remember ive always wanted peace" my favorite out of the two was tracy moore.

  6. Although both Tracy and Karen exhibit art journals, their styles are entirely different. Tracy plays with black and whites, along with often having multiple shout elements when dealing with words in her entries. The shapes she uses are very jagged and irregular. Tracy hand-draws most of her entries and creates an emphasis element by overlapping and enlarging certain aspects of the entry.

Karen Michel, on the other hand, uses bright and vibrant colors in her entries. She plays with a lot of texture, which is visually appealing. Karen uses a lot of themed entries, usually having to do with peace or old portraits, while Tracy focused on tribal-like drawings. Karen's entries use photographs as scream elements, which is also interesting. Both girls have very different styles, but the styles come together for the cause of art.

  7. I really liked both of the journals because there was always a lot to look at on each page and it never got boring. Karen Michel's journal had a lot more color than Tracy Moore's and she had a very strong emphasis for all of her drawings. Tracy Moore used a lot of photographs for her journal and a lot of writing. Her drawings had very good shading and value.

  8. Teesha Moore is a very good artist. Almost all of her journals are extremely colorful. Most of her journal entries have many different speak elements. An example of where this is shown in the journal that is shown first. She has her major focal point which can either be the girl's face or the bumble bee above her. Then she has some ocean waves underneath it and very colorful details added to the background. She also uses words and faces a lot in her entries. The faces add emotion in the way that they're drawn (the eyes and mouth)and the words/lyrics set a mood for the entry.

  9. They both have very intense journal entries.Tracy's journals are more of a black and white type of theme and Karen's journals are much more colorful. Even though Karen uses a lot more color and Tracy's journals are more bland in color, they are both equal in how well they were done. The reason why i think this is because even though Tracy uses black and white quite a bit throughout her journals they are still very interesting in the way she draws faces and uses words to speak to the person looking at her work. Also using color would definitely bring attention to the person looking at the journal (specifically Karen's in this case)because there are more things to look at and bright colors really draw attention to the eye.

  10. Tracy Moore and Karen Michel are both very good artists. They both have incredible journal entries. Both people are different because Tracy's journal entry's are more dull than Karen's in color. Karen's uses very bright color and she has all good focal point's in all journal entries. Tracy uses a lot of words and she seems to draw a lot of detailed faces, which makes her art just as interesting as Karen's was.

  11. Both of their jounal entries are very creative and unique. I liked how Tracy Moore used interesting fabrics like leather, and I also noticed that most of her entries revolved around writing. I also liked how she used writing to fill space in most of her entries, and in some of them, she would do sketches that looked really good with the writing in the background. She also did many entries in black and white. Karen Michel tended to use much more color, and many more mediums. She worked with different fabrics, water colors, and many others. Her entries didn't really follow a theme like Tracy Moore did with using letters as backgrounds, but each page was very creative, and interesting to look at.

  12. I enjoyed how karen did a lot of 3D in her journal and used a lot of pop up material. Karen used a lot bright colors and she always had a busy background. I also liked how each journal entry was totally different from the next and she used different materials in all of them. Tracy used a lot of dark colors i noticed in her journal. And everything she did was very dramatic and not really bright. I really like Tracys cover i thought it was very creative.
